Tsawwar… Mohamed Monther Mejri

"A tribute to youth with green passports, bound dreams, and stifled hearts.

A tribute to generations of fighters, perseverers, and tenacious individuals.

A gaze like a spring breeze, like a mother's caress. Keeping hope alive."

Mohamed Monther Mejri was born and raised in Tunis in 1988. He turned to art as a place of refuge. Influenced early on by his feminist mother, Hafidha Mejri, and his painter uncle, Sadok Mejri, he grew up immersed in cinema, literature, and painting. Now living between Tunisia and Europe, he has developed a distinctive visual language, using carefully staged yet spontaneous portraits to look beyond appearances and reflect on society through an artistic lens.”

Tsawwar is an ongoing visual series in Daftar which explores the stories behind a photograph, taken in the region or by an Arab photographer, written in their own words.
