Tsawwar… Ahmed Abdelshafi

Home

“This photograph was taken on August 27, 2020, in the quiet of my family home. It captures my grandmother and niece by a window, an instinctive shot that relied entirely on the available light of the room. Nothing specific is happening; the image is defined by a stillness that feels both ordinary and profound. While the scene is deeply personal, it functions as a symbol for a relationship that transcends my own family. It reflects the unique, silent language of care shared between grandmothers and their grandchildren, a bond that repeats itself across cultures and generations.”

Ahmed Abdelshafi is a photographer whose work reflects a deep connection to nature, memory, and the idea of home. His images focus on simple, honest moments captured through natural light and genuine emotion. His work has been featured by Apple, VSCO, and Fujifilm, and exhibited in Italy, at the French Institute in Egypt, and during Cairo Photo Week.

Tsawwar is an ongoing visual series in Daftar which explores the stories behind a photograph, taken in the region or by an Arab photographer, written in their own words.
