Tsawwar… Aboubakr Erradey

Into the Void

"This photograph was taken in April 2024 in Casablanca, in a space undergoing demolition, a fragment of a house opened to the outside. In the midst of this destruction, a mattress remains on the ground, suggesting a discreet, almost invisible presence. The image is part of the series Into the Void, which explores how silence and an inner distance can emerge at the very heart of proximity, in a dense and constantly moving city like Casablanca. The series questions the relationship between space, memory, and emotional states, revealing a form of contemporary solitude embedded within the architecture and rhythms of the city."

Aboubakr Erradey is a photographer based in Casablanca. His work follows a poetic and documentary approach, exploring the memory of places, silence, and the ways in which space shapes human narratives.

Tsawwar is an ongoing visual series in Daftar which explores the stories behind a photograph, taken in the region or by an Arab photographer, written in their own words.
