Tsawwar… Abdualrhman Adriano
“Along the banks of the Nile, in the village of Shubra Baloula in Egypt, women awaken in the heart of the night, two or three hours before first light, to pick jasmine while it is still untouched by the sun. Any trace of daylight would ruin the flowers, so they are carefully collected and rushed to the factories, before traveling all the way to France, where they are transformed into some of the world’s most iconic perfumes.”
Abdualrhman Adriano is a photojournalist who began his career with Masrawy in Cairo. In 2021 and 2022, he contributed to a visual project exploring resistance through art and memory, in collaboration with Bosla Arts magazine in London. In 2025, he published his first photography book, showcasing the projects and images he had worked on, in partnership with Rizo Masr. His work has also been featured in numerous exhibitions both in Egypt and abroad.
Tsawwar is an ongoing visual series in Daftar which explores the stories behind a photograph, taken in the region or by an Arab photographer, written in their own words.
