Tsawwar… Karim Magdy

Men by the Sea – Alexandria, Egypt

A group of men from Upper Egypt stand by the Mediterranean Sea in Alexandria, laughing and enjoying the moment. Shot up close on mobile, the spontaneous glance of two men toward the camera adds a vivid, human touch. Watching them, I couldn’t help but wonder: was this their first time in Alexandria, a break after a long day, or a special visit to the city? I captured this moment because it felt entirely real and alive.”

Karim Magdy is a street photographer based in Alexandria, Egypt. He began photography in 2017, focusing on everyday life and the relationship between people and their surroundings. He moves through the streets without staging or direction, waiting for small moments to happen.

Tsawwar is an ongoing visual series in Daftar which explores the stories behind a photograph, taken in the region or by an Arab photographer, written in their own words.
